July? REALLY?!

We enjoyed our second meeting with our adoption practitioner on Friday where we talked about parenting styles, values, involvement, hobbies & interests, friends & family. A good chat! We also had to fill out the second questionnaire (which is the most invasive part of the homestudy) where they ask you very in depth questions about EVERYTHING.

We also asked about the matching process and how it all works. She said once you are matched and you decide yes, and accept the match - between then and meeting the child can take a while... Once you meet the child it could be 1-3 weeks.... But the time between the match and meeting the child is COMPLETELY up the in air depending on CAS load, the foster family, the child, paper work, medical stuff... All kinds of things can determine that time frame. Anytime between a day and a few weeks. She said that is the hardest wait in the whole process - way worse than just waiting for a match!

She also said that we have a lot of things going for us, being young, open to age & ethnicity, etc. so we need to be prepared for a child as early as July. She said it still could take 6 months a year, or more... But we do need to be prepared for this summer as we were told that "you are such excellent candidates, I don't see this being a long wait for you two!"

So we have started to compile a list of things that we will need for when our son arrives...
We are planning on buying a number of these things new once we have our child... But we do need to be prepared in the mean time. For example - we need to have a car seat as soon as we are matched just to borrow/use but once we know age then we can go buy our own new one that will last through all of our children.

If you know of anyone who is willing to lend out/give away any of these items - Please let us know!
Booster seat for feeding
Pack & Play/Play yard
Car seat (for newborn and up - or different ones that could suit the different age range)
Stroller
Slings/Baby Carriers
Toys (for newborn and up)
Boys clothes (newborn and up)

Also, if you know any friends or family that are having garage sales - then let us know that info too!

Hey Andie, that's fantastic news! I'll send my sister an email; she has 4 boys between 2 and 12 so will probably have some stuff available (clothes, etc). If so, maybe you guys can arrange a handover at church? She's usually at the 8:30 and volunteers in the creche at the 10.

Garage sales are wonderful for all these things-but the age could be a little hold on buying a lot right away. Wow July that's so hard to wish but not get your hopes up too much if it doesn't happen that month. It's still very exciting-thanks for keeping us updated!
